IPL Photofacial

At Living Well MedSkin & Laser in the Tanasbourne shopping area we offer state-of-the-art Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) treatments with the Cynosure Palomar Icon™.

The Icon™ IPL or photofacial, is a non-invasive IPL treatment that gently, safely, and effectively treats sun damage and photo-aging. IPL treatments reduce redness, dark spots, and soften signs of aging. IPL treatments also corrects brown spots, sun damage, irregular skin pigmentation, as well as diminish rosacea, wrinkles, laxity, enlarged pores, and spider veins.

This advanced technology delivers a broad spectrum of light to the skin through gentle pulses. Each flash of light transmits energy that targets brown spots and discoloration. When the targeted areas absorb the light, they darken and the surrounding skin may appear pink. This appearance lasts a few hours or a few days, depending on the patient’s individual healing process. In the weeks following the treatment, the darkened spots will flake off and fade while facial capillaries and diffused redness will decrease. The body’s natural healing process will begin to rejuvenate the sun-damaged skin, providing an overall more youthful, healthy appearance. Treatments are performed in a series of 3 to 6 for best results.

How will I look after the treatment?

In most cases, there is no visible reaction and you could resume normal activities immediately after your appointment. However, IPL causes heat in the target tissues; therefore, the area could be slightly reddened immediately after treatment. Sunscreen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun.

Can tanned and dark skin be treated?

Light produced by laser and by IPL is absorbed by the color pigment, melanin, which is present in our hair and skin. Caution is required when treating people with darker skin.

Is there anything I need to know before I have an IPL treatment?

You cannot be treated if you have had ultra violet (UV) exposure from the sun or sun beds within the past 4 to 6 weeks. Skin can also not be treated two weeks after a spray-on tan application.
